Carl McAllister Retires!

Today Sutliff Tobacco announced the retirement of their Master blender for 38 years, Carl McAllister.  This is from their Facebook page;

Today,
I announce the Retirement of a Pipe Tobacco Legend, A Master Blender known in the industry as a quiet, humble, respectful person, a friend, and co-worker. Today Carl McAllister makes his last stand as our Blender. Carl has work for Sutliff Tobacco for 38 years. Carl came to Sutliff in 1977 and never looked back. During his tenure he has created many Top Sellers and Match Blends. What Carl did is not an easy job at all. Having a 1 oz. sample of a blend that a shop sent you and asked to match it, is virtually impossible except for an elite few in the pipe tobacco world. Carl made it seem easy. I have been questioned by many pipe smokers how he did it. My answer is well, you need to know the leaf content, but how he figures out the flavor, is impossible, I simply have no answer. Carl, will continue to help us from time to time on projects, but I am sure he is going to start enjoying life outside of this old factory. “However, it will be a different place here without Carl around.” Today we tip our hat to Carl and “if everyone out there could “light” up in salute for someone who completely deserves Credit that never asked for it,” please do so. Carl you will be missed my friend but not forgotten.

Many Thanks to you Carl,

John & The Sutliff Tobacco Team
