Mac Baren Dark Twist Roll Cake
Well, it’s finally getting sunnier and warmer, been around in the upper 40’s, low 50’s. Yes, for us in the Midwest it’s warm, hell it’s short wearing weather, lol. So to celebrate this nice weather, I’m reviewing today; Mac Baren’s Dark Twist – Roll Cake.
Pipe used: Savinelli 614 full bend
Blend: Virginia, Cavendish
Type: Coins/Curly Cut
Tin size: 3.5 oz
Tin Notes: Herbal, grassy and hay-like, mild
Taste: Mild sweetness from Virginia leaf, but not much complexity or body to make it interesting.
Strength: Mild to medium mild
Room Note: Grassy/hay notes, very mild, a little bit of an acrid aroma.
Notes: The smell out of the can was hay-like and grassy, somewhat pungent. It needs some drying time. I let it air out for about 40 minutes before packing it and didn’t bother to rub it out. The room note doesn’t match the tin note, but it had some interesting aromas of cotton candy, very neutral, and mild. I had to relight it several times, and found it to be not a very full-bodied or complex blend. After about half a bowl, it just got harsher and more of bitey, even if smoked slow and a light pack didn’t seem matter. The strength increased, but not in a good way at all. Overall, I don’t think I’d buy it again. It’s not too bad a smoke, just not for my liking; you never know perhaps you all may enjoy it. Either way, keep on puffin!!!

The GoodWife’s Review:
We had this one lit with friends over, the one swore they could smell cotton candy and I really could almost not smell it at all from across the room. It just didn’t evoke a darned thought with me at all. I like when my hubby smokes a pipe that instantly transports me into somewhere or some time else and this really didn’t do that at all… so I’ll rate it “blah” to the nth degree… If your wife hates pipe smoke, get this one because it has almost no room note for me; I even had him come stand next to me and I got nothing…Pass.
