So far, I am actually seriously beginning to like the H & H Signature Series, having tried three or four blends within the series.
So, I looked up Frenchy’s Sunzabitches on tobaccoreviews.com and this is what they had to say;
For those who prefer a little Virginia with their Perique, your ship has come in. The addition of the Burley and Bourbon toppings does set it apart a bit, it’s still a VaPer to the core with nothing spared when it comes to the Perique. This is an excellent blend that smokes clean and cool with not a hint of bite.
Which piqued my interest, though my husband was dubious of any blend that asserts to be principally Perique, yet claims to be without bite. So I looked up the tobacco on their home site, pipesandcigars.com;
Frenchy’s Sunzabitches is a robust blend of sweet Virginias, bold, dark Burley, lots of tangy Perique and a bit of unflavored black Cavendish. To add to the complexity and to give the blend a pleasant room note, a splash of Bourbon is added. This long-time favorite among Hearth & Home customers is hearty enough to be the perfect after dinner blend.
OK this one does not state “with not a hint of bite,” but we immediately loaded our pipes.
So, after five or six draws the tobacco began to take on the complexities of the VaPer blend, and we concluded that the person that wrote the description on tobaccoreviews.com may indeed, in fact, be the same person who writes for aftershave commercials describing them as “cool and refreshing!” Either this person has never tried the tobacco, or they have a completely alien physiology, because I have never met a Perique that didn’t bite.
This is not to say that I don’t like Perique blends, to the contrary, I am quite fond of them, but I’ve never found one that didn’t bite; Perique just bites, it is that simple.
The bag note is very mild, and slightly alcoholic, though not unpleasant, and the room note is, actually, quite pleasant and mildly sweet-smelling.
Being that I got this in bulk, it is quite dry, I am unsure if the canned version would be the same, and it smoked rather quickly finishing the bowl in a mere 25 minutes. Jamie said that a bit too much for him, but I rather enjoyed it.
I’m not certain that I will add it to a regular rotation, but I will at least finish the bag.
You can get it at pipesandcigars.com in the 1.5 ounce and 8 ounce size and in bulk for $7.49 USD, $17.99 USD and $2.99 USD per ounce, respectively.
Smoke ‘em if you got ‘em!
