Handy Little Gadget (Royal Majesty Two Cigar Pocket Case)

2015-05-12 10.31.50So I’m not doing a cigar review today. Instead I’m going to tell you about my cigar case.

Royal Majesty is not the highest-ranked cigar company in the world.  They make a decent cigar but you won’t find their product in Cigar Aficionado’s top 25.  Their accessories, however, are top-notch.

2015-05-12 10.35.25The Two Cigar Pocket Case is a hard leather shell case with room for two cigars.  The flexible patent leather shell easily accommodates everything up to a 53 ring gauge churchill.  It protects your cigars from physical damage in transport and  mitigates the effects of exposing them to the air.  Best of all, it has a pocket on the outside that firmly contains a small, sharp single-guillotine cigar cutter, meaning I don’t have to dig through my purse if I want to cut my cigars instead of punching them.

2015-05-12 10.32.58The Pocket Case was my door prize at the Okanagan Pipe & Cigar Club New Year’s gathering, so I’ve had it for about four and a half months now.  I have thrown it in suitcases, tossed it on the dashboard of my car and stuffed it into the crowded and messy indignity of my work bag.  It has suffered no more damage than a single minor scuff, easily removable with shoe polish, and not once has a cigar been damaged.  I even sat on it once.

2015-05-12 10.31.45I wouldn’t have bought such a thing if left to my own devices.  I would have been skeptical of its value.  But I now consider it to be an indispensable companion.  I especially like it for weekend trips; I often like to smoke cigars when I’m travelling, since it’s a great way to pass the time when you’ve got a couple of hours to drive, so I take along two of my favourite robustos and then I’ve got a cigar for each end of the trip.  But I also carry it to work in case I want to start a review on my way home.

2015-05-12 10.35.58I have one cautionary note, and that is a suggestion not to leave a particular cigar in there for longer than a week without giving it some humidor TLC.  The case helps to reduce dehydration but it’s not a humidor, and I’ve ended up with some flaky cigars by not paying attention to this detail.

At $25 USD I consider it to be an outstanding value and I highly recommend it to any casual, occasional cigar smoker for whom one is more than enough in a given day.  You can get it at Royal Majesty’s website.  It even comes in your choice of brown or black.

And that’s a lady’s perspective!
